OTB’s Best of the Boiler Room
Just this past week I sparked up a conversation with a friend that inevitably turned to music, particularly to a place where we both began to share some of our favorite tracks, mixes and you guessed it: Boiler Room sets.
The Boiler Room has been around as a musical platform since March 2010, inviting musical artists to showcase their talent in intimate settings across the world, and later posting the live sets on YouTube or the Boiler Room archive.
Within the last few years, Boiler Room series’ have becoming increasingly more popular, especially among a younger crowd. The Boiler Room has hosted over 120 each month in nearly 50 countries, attracting a variety of audiences almost as wide as the types of music they showcase.
What I find particularly unique about the Boiler Room is its ability to pull emerging talent to the forefront of the scene, while still featuring an extensive list of established musicians in a range of diverse genres.
And without further adieu, here are just a few of OTB’s favorite Boiler Room sets
Simon Green, better known to fans as Bonobo, delivers with his classic use of heavy basslines and keeps us thoroughly entertained during this 45-minute mix.
2. Carl Cox
Damn, does Carl Cox deliver. That is all.
I was not super familiar with this German duo, but after their Boiler Room set was suggested to me by a fellow OTB colleague, how could I not include it? So. Good.
Mmhmmm! If you listen to this set and you’re not dancing, you’re doing it wrong.
6. Nicolas Jaar
7. Richie Hawtin
Musical great Richie Hawtin brings down the house in his special Villa Ibiza Takeover in this technolicious mix.
SBTRKT gives us a beautiful mix that features sultry, slowed down vocals and uplifting house beats.
9. Skream b2b Disclosure
What happens when three extremely musically talented Brits collaborate on a live b2b set? Magic. Although the track selection and mixing is on point, some of the transitions are a little lacking. But we can over look that because… Skream. And Disclosure.
At the tender age of 18, musician and electronic music producer XXYYXX is making waves in the music world. Known for his sexy minimal sound and innate skill, this set is not one to disappoint.
