Cashmere Cat Takes Over Pittsburgh’s Rex Theater
Cashmere Cat has been around the scene for a few years now having released two EPs and multiple singles. He gained quite a following with his captivating remixes of Jeremih’s ‘773 Love‘ and Miguel’s ‘Do you…‘. His EP’s Mirror Maru and Wedding Bells are iconic as there was nothing that sounded quite like that.
Earlier this year there were rumors surrounding an album release but it was never confirmed, until finally when he spoke up about his album entitled ‘9’. So when he announced he was going on tour there was no way I wasn’t going to it since he would be showcasing his new work. The day before the show I found out that Nina Las Vegas would be supporting him which got me really excited about the show.
Cashmere Cat was playing at The Rex Theater on a Tuesday night and it was already packed when I got there at 9:45 PM. Nina Las Vegas went on at 10 PM and she immediately got the crowd moving. I’ve been a fan of her for years, she’s helped shape dance music through her show on triple j in Australia and has been a champion for female artists. She’s been very vocal about the need for festivals to have female artists headlining them and has been an inspiration to many in the electronic music community.
I was mesmerized as I watched her control the CDJs, it was incredible to see her work her magic. She got the crowd moving to her tracks and did a great job at blending her tracks with popular Hip-Hop tracks like Goosebumps, Waves and more. It was safe to say the crowd was sweating after her wicked set.

Soon after she was done, they started to set up for Cashmere Cat. They pulled off the cover and behind the stage was a large light rig which filled the room with warm hues of red and blue. He opened with ‘Wild Love’, which features The Weeknd and Francis and the Lights, which gradually lead into ‘Mirror Maru‘. Three minutes into his set the room was filled with energy and the crowd was already bumping to the music. For the first half of his set he played his newer tracks like ‘Trust Nobody‘ which features Troy Lanez and Selena Gomez and ‘Love Incredible‘. Earlier that day, he released the video for ‘9(After Coachella)‘ so it was pretty stunning to watch him play it and see the crowds reaction to the song. After this he played a variety of tracks ranging from ‘Wolves’, which he produced, to his remix of ‘Do you…’ by Miguel.
If you’ve been to a Cashmere Cat show then you know there is never a moment where people are not feeling the music. I think the highlight of the show was watching him play his new release ‘Quit’ that featured Ariana Grande. His face beamed with a bright smile as he told the crowd about the track.
Cashmere Cat is playing quite a festivals this Summer such as Electric Forest, HARD Summer and Basscenter to name a few. If you’re going to be at any of those festivals, be sure to check him out!
