Louis Futon and Rozes are “Wasted On You”
“Genres don’t define me.”
The mantra of twenty-three year old Philly native Louis Futon seems to be an increasingly common mindset with artists these days. That’s not his real name by the way. Tyler Minford has been putting out remixes for Odesza, Mos Def, Wiz Khalifa, and the Childish Gambino for the last two years, this time joining forces with another Philladelphia resident, Rozes, who you definitely know from Roses, that huge release from The Chainsmokers in 2015. The girl is only twenty-two and if this is the kind of music we’re getting from her now, I can’t wait to see where she takes us.
Is it trap? Is it future bass? Is it ambient? Technically there might be elements of all of that, mixed in with a little bit of indie rock. But like with most of these “anti-genre” artists, the importance is much less about how to classify the production, and instead encourages you to listen and focus on the fact that it’s just good music.
Relaxing and wandering, layered and ambiguously melancholy; this is the hypnotic and dreamy sound that we have come to expect from Foreign Family Collective. a pseudo label made up of songs and artists curated by Harrison Mills and Clayton Knight of Odesza. Keep them coming, boys.
